Care and information
Craftsmanship & Longevity:
All Meek and Wild furniture is meticulously crafted by hand, using traditional hand tools, and is built to a standard that ensures its endurance over lifetimes with proper care. We take pride in delivering furniture from our workshop in impeccable condition, with the aim of providing enjoyment for years to come. While we anticipate and welcome the marks that may accumulate over its lifetime, our goal is to prevent damage that could hinder your full enjoyment of our creations.
Natural Variations in Timber:
Timber, being a natural material, exhibits unique variations. Even if sourced from the same species, each tree and every board are distinct. These variations include differences in grain orientation, knots, pipping, surface checks, spits, and colour variations, including those caused by non-damaging bacteria or fungus. Embracing these natural variations is part of the beauty and uniqueness of timber, a quality we cherish.
Staining/Colour Change:
We employ clear oils, varnishes, and waxes to enhance the natural beauty of wood, avoiding wood stains and coloured finishing oils for a more consistent finish. If a colour change is desired, methods such as ammonia fuming or scorching are utilized, offering unique and rich tones to high-tanning timbers like Oak or achieving jet black high-sheen finishes.
Intended Use:
Every piece of furniture is purposefully designed for a specific use. While our craftsmanship ensures durability, deviating significantly from the intended use may result in unwanted damage. We advise using each piece as intended to maintain its longevity.
Positioning in Your Home:
Placing furniture in direct sunlight, close to heating sources, or areas with rapid temperature or humidity fluctuations is not recommended. Timber remains a living material, reacting to its environment. Direct sunlight can alter the colour of unprotected timber, while proximity to heat sources may cause drying, leading to shrinkage, splitting, and cracking. Unstable temperature or humidity conditions can also affect the timber structure. Meek and Wild cannot be held liable for resulting defects or charges if furniture is placed in such environments or misused.
Proper Care and Expectations:
While some movement over time is expected and should not be considered detrimental, our timber is appropriately dried before use to maintain an ideal moisture content for your home. We provide aftercare information for each product sold, and adherence to our advice ensures the longevity and beauty of your Meek and Wild furniture.
